Poha Papad Chivda is a unique snack of flaked rice and deep fried papad, along with nuts and spices. It is a popular snack among Gujarati people. This is is a tea time snack and can be stored in an air tight container. Poha Papad Chivda comes in handy when you need to have something filling. Try this easy recipe for this Diwali who are interested in making a different Chivda variety.
Ingredients:
- 3 Cups/250 Grams Sorghum/Jowar Flakes/Poha
- 2 Cups Deep fried and Crushed Papad
- 5 Tbsp Peanuts
- 2 Tbsp Oil
- 2 Tbsp Roasted Chana Dal/Pottu Kadalai
- 2 Tbsp Dried Coconut Pieces/Kopra pieces
- 6 - 8 Cashew nuts broken
- 6 - 8 Almonds broken
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Seeds
- 2 Tsp Powdered Sugar
- 1 Tsp Fennel Seeds/Sombu/Saunf
- 1/2 Tsp Salt
- 1/2 Tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1/2 Tsp Chat Masala
- 1/4 Tsp Asafoetida Powder
- 4 Green Chillies Finely Chopped
- 2 Springs of Curry Leaves
Directions:
- Take a wide pan and dry roast the poha/flakes on low heat for a few minutes till it becomes crisp. Remove and sieve to remove the powder. Keep aside.
- On medium heat, in the same pan, add oil. Once it is hot, add green chillies, peanuts followed by dried coconut pieces, fennel seeds, roasted gram dal,almonds and cashews, sesame seeds and asafoetida powder. Roast them well. Finally add curry leaves and turmeric powder. Roast till the leaves become crisp.
- Keeping the heat on low, add the roasted poha, chat masala, salt, sugar and finally add the crushed papad pieces. Mix everything well and turn off the heat. Tasty Poha Papad Chivda is ready.
Note:
- Sorghum flakes are well suited for this recipe as they are big in size.
- Instead of green chillies a tsp of red chilli powder or a mixture of both can be used.
- Chat masala is optional. If you are not adding, then slightly increase the salt qty.
