Karuppatti Halwa | Palm Jaggery Halwa

Karupatti (palm Jaggery) Halwa or Panai Vellam Halwa is a deliciously authentic sweet from Tamilnadu. This sweet is so yummy and prepared using a healthy Palm Jaggery. Karupatti is a natural sweetener with no artificial additives. Karupatti is also known to have various medicinal properties and other health benefits. Halwa made with palm Jaggery is an authentic delicacy.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Jowar Flour
  • 1 Cup Karuppatti/Palm Jaggery
  • 1 Cup Water
  • 1/3 Cup Coconut Oil
  • 2 Tbsp Chopped Nuts
  • 1/2 Tsp Cardamom Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Cinnamon Powder/Ginger Powder

Directions:

  1. On low heat dry roast jowar flour for approximately 7 minutes. Now add coconut oil and continue roasting for another 5 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile in a sauce pan add water and melt palm jaggery. When it becomes sticky switch off.
  3. Once the flour is roasted in oil, add the filtered jaggery syrup. Continue cooking till the flour gets cooked and it becomes a mass and starts leaving the sides of the pan.
  4. Finally add cardamom powder, cinnamon powder and chopped nuts. Serve warm.

Note:

  • Other millet flours can also be used for this recipe.
  • Can add 1/4 Cup more palm jaggery for sweeter version.
  • Can use ghee instead of coconut oil.
  • Can add more oil/ghee.

  1. Thanks this is a great recipe with jowar. Any millet is good for diabetics but jaggery despite its health benefits, has a high glycemic index. Maybe substitute with monk sugar or stevia and a small piece of ripe banana.
